Ampeliona, Chestnut Festival
Ampeliona's chestnut festival takes place each year in late October in the paved square next to the restored church. An important agricultural and cultural event, it marks the coming of autumn and is a chance for the village to show off its chestnut harvest to the local population and curious visitors.
The festival is also an excuse for a feast that starts with chestnuts and tsipouro. This is followed by bean soup and roasted pig accompanied by olives, feta and salad washed down with local wine. The festival concludes with traditional circle dancing when the roasted pig's head is paraded!
